SHS Knowledge Bowl Team Wins Second Consecutive State Championship

After winning the SW Washington 1A Knowledge Bowl Regional Tournament in February, varsity SHS K-Bowl team of Blake Langeslay, Audriane Shipman-Kardinal, Lacey Mac-Rhyann, Marina Levy, Jereme Wingert, and Jace Hogg prepared to defend their state championship title.

On March 22nd, the SHS Bowl-Dogs travelled to Arlington for the Washington State tournament. They competed against the top seventeen teams from the state; Stevenson scored consistently in the first five preliminary rounds to finish with 115 points, as the number one seed going into the semifinal rounds.

CES Principal to Retire After 22 Years with SCSD

As the end of the school year draws near, the District would like to recognize Kathy Browning for her dedication and leadership to our students and staff. Kathy will be retiring after twenty-two years of service at Stevenson-Carson.

Kathy grew up in Glenrock, Wyoming, a small town in the middle of oil wells and strip coal mines. She graduated from the University of Wyoming in 1973 and served as teacher and then assistant principal for the Converse County School District #2, in her hometown.

Clark College Offers Spring Courses at WREC

Clark College spring quarter begins April 7, 2014. There are a variety of courses being offered locally at Wind River Education Center (formerly the Wind River Middle School) from three main areas of the college:

Conference Week: March 24th - 28th

The week of March, 24th - 28th is District wide conference week. If you have not scheduled a conference with your student's teacher please contact the appropriate school or teacher. During this week schools will be running on an early release schedule to accommodate the conferences.

CES Celebrates Reading with Book Fair Fiesta

Carson Elementary staff and students are preparing for a "Book Fair Fiesta!" Students and parents can look forward to the Book Fair (Tuesday - Thursday) in the CES library and Family Literacy Night on Tuesday, March 18th. 

Starting Tuesday, March 18th, CES will be hosting a three day Book Fair in the CES library that is open to students and parents alike from 9:30 am to 5:00 pm.

Karen Douglass Named Washington State Regional Distinguished Principal

Congratulations to Stevenson Elementary Principal, Karen Douglass, for being selected by her colleagues as a Washington State Regional Distinguished Principal. Karen was selected from the Columbia River Region.

Candidates for Distinguished Principal’s recognition are selected on their contributions to professional growth and development, educational excellence, community relations and humanitarian activities.

Karen will be recognized for the Distinguished Principals award at the AWSP Fall Conference in October.

Stevenson Elementary Receives Award

From OSPI: Four schools in Washington state have been recognized as Title I, Part A Distinguished Schools, the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction announced December 30, 2013.

Madison Elementary (Everett School District) and Neah Bay Elementary (Cape Flattery School District) each won National Title I, Part A Distinguished School awards. In addition, Oakwood Elementary (Clover Park School District) and Stevenson Elementary (Stevenson-Carson School District) each won the same awards at the state level.

Highly Capable Winter Wonderland Display at Portland International Raceway

With Debbie Robison’s direction, CES Hi Cap students designed, planned and painted an entry for the PIR Winter Wonderland and Holiday Lights display. Different schools paint winter scenes, and drivers get to vote for their favorite(s). So, if you’re in Portland before Christmas, cruise through PIR and vote for CES! The PIR Winter Wonderland opened on Thanksgiving.
